Ok, let’s be straight up from the get go: this is NOT a “how to / why you should meditate” bc yawnnn 🥱 been there, done that and got the t-shirt. I never want anything in my Substack to be dogmatic and truth be told - the wellness industry is full of BS with misguided intentions (more on that later).
BUT in the same breath, I KNOW first hand how helpful having moments of meditation in my day have been. So here we are lol.
The Sitch:
I read the other day, (written by psychologist Robert Leahy): “The average high school kid today has the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient in the early 1950s.” Like, I can’t. And that’s just a high school kid?! Imagine what baseline a mother is operating from!
And you might think, “Yeah, but it’s not me.” And maybe (hopefully) you’re not a walking ball of anxiety BUT what I’m getting at here is that the collective is at a baseline that is tense, heightened, and overthinking. So even if you’re good (most of the time), there’s benefit in having rhythms that help with your energetic, mental and emotional hygiene.
Enter Unconventional Meditation
When you try to make decisions - if you’ve got thoughts swirling around, you’re having to phone a friend (or 5) for their opinion, ask Dr Google, or trawl socials for your answer… your mind is cluttered.
And unconventional meditation can help with that.
If you’re:
-
struggling in your marriage, not sure what you want or feeling disconnected from your husband
-
Feeling clouded in your biz, unable to get clarity on your direction or messaging
-
Finding yourself overthinking a bunch of situations in life
-
Anxious, looping thoughts, repeating old situations
-
Feeling off about something in life but unable to make a confident decision of what to do
Then you need to realise that the reason why you’re not able to gain this clarity is likely bc of just HOW much is in your mind; The more you shift out, the more mud you clear, the more clarity you will find. The more quiet, the more of you, the clearer your intuition (and confidence and sexiness) will be.
Here are my 3 favourite meditations:
1. Walking / Running
Heading out on a walk is a mind fk for me, I won’t lie. I equal parts LOVE it and can’t be bothered with the effort. But, it’s my happy place. Getting yourself outside, with or without music (I opt for WITH but my husband has that beige flag that can just walk (or sit) with no input for any length of time quite happily lol), look at nature, look at the plants, look at the houses, smile at the people and say hello. And think. Picking one thing to work through, to fully process and put to bed - with closure, or with a direction, or with an answer. THIS is meditation at its greatest

Knitting
Ok, so it’s knitting for me - but for you it might be painting, or drawing, or cleaning, or crafting… again, sitting with a hobby, a repetitive action and just doing it gives you the mental and physical stimulation you might crave, but it allows your mind to wander. It’s the beautiful balance of creativity and thought expression - that this kind of meditation is great for dreaming up new ideas, or simply noticing WHERE your mind goes to and what it truly desires.

Shower
Shower meditationnnnn omfg this is my latest space and you might be thinking “How long do you spend in the shower?!” lol, trust me, it’s not long … we have three kids, the luxury of an uninterrupted shower doesn’t last long. But I find THIS is a wicked place for tuning in. The water is cleansing and then reflecting on happenings and pondering on a question can allow for brilliant ideas or leading thoughts to pop through. Truth be told, this is where I often choose to think of content ideas.
Honestly, the key is the intention (eg closing a situation off, creating new ideas, reflecting) and then a matched activity. We need to shed the ‘ideals’ or ‘standards’ of spirituality and do it our own way, bc the benefits are so immense. Tomorrow on my daily walk (which actually hasn’t been that daily lately oops), I’ll be thinking more on my brand new biz that I’m creating (soooo exciting!). It’s so simple, and probably sounds cracked - but give it a go! (And ofc, lmk if you do!)
Sending love cutie xx
